Drone Zone Data Guides¶
Learn how to use drone zone data with free software.
Choose the guide that matches your level.
Get started¶
The Danish Transport Authority provides drone zone geodata in open, standardised formats. This ensures that users are free to choose the software that best suits their needs — with no requirements for specific licences or vendors.
The guides on this site exclusively use free and open source software as examples. The data can also be opened in professional GIS systems such as ArcGIS Pro, MapInfo and similar.
📍 Google My Maps¶
View drone zones directly in your browser — no installation required. Perfect for a quick overview on mobile or desktop. Share the map with colleagues.
🌍 Google Earth¶
View drone zones in 3D with Google Earth Pro. Measure distances, tilt and rotate — a visual and intuitive way to plan flights.
🗺️ QGIS¶
Professional GIS analysis with GeoPackage data. Measure precise distances, combine with your own data, filter zones and export maps.
Understand the drone zone colour codes¶
The drone zones are divided into four colours indicating different restriction levels:
Flight safety critical areas. Flight requires permission.
Awareness areas. Extra caution required.
Security critical areas. Special rules apply.
Nature areas. May be active (flying prohibited) depending on season.
Always check the official map
These guides help you work with offline geodata. Always check the official drone zone map before flying for the most current zones.
