Step-by-step — Google My Maps¶
Follow these steps to view the drone zones in your browser via Google My Maps.
1. Create a new map
Go to google.com/mymaps, sign in with your Google account, and click "+ Create a new map". Give the map a name, e.g. "Drone Zones Denmark".

2. Import KMZ data
There are five KMZ files to import — one with points and four with polygons (one per colour code). Download them from the Google My Maps overview.
Click "Import" under the first layer → "Select a file from your computer" → select the first .kmz file. Wait while the file is processed.
For each remaining file: click "Add layer" → "Import" → select the next .kmz file. Repeat until all five files are imported.

3. Navigate and explore
Use the scroll wheel to zoom and click+drag to pan the map. Click on a zone to see details.
Switch background map via "Base map" at the bottom of the layer panel — choose Satellite for aerial photography.

4. Example: Draw flight area and meeting point
Meeting point (marker): Click the "Add marker" icon (📍 below the search field) → click on the map where you will meet → name it e.g. "Start area — meeting point". Your colleagues can navigate directly to this marker via Google Maps.
Flight area (polygon): Click the "Draw a line" icon → select "Add line or shape". Click on the corner points to draw your planned flight area as a polygon, and finish by clicking on the first point again. Name it e.g. "Flight area".
You can now visually assess whether the flight area overlaps with drone zones.

5. Share the map
Click "Share" → select "Anyone with the link can view" and copy the link. Send it to colleagues or friends — they can open the map in Google Maps, tap the meeting point marker and use "Directions" to navigate directly to the starting area.
6. Use the map on mobile
Open the Google Maps app → tap your profile picture → "Your places" → the "Maps" tab → select your drone zone map.
💡 Idea: Use the map as your own flight logbook
After each flight, you can edit your polygon and fill in the description field with the required information — e.g.:
Date: 24/02 2026 · Start: 10:15 · End: 10:45

Notes: Photography of wedding at church, calm wind
Over time you build a visual flight logbook with all flights on one map. Data is stored in the cloud and can be exported as a KML file.
You can also add photos and video directly to your polygon or marker — click the camera icon in the edit window and upload from your computer, Google Drive or Google Photos. A good way to document flights visually.
This is an easy way to get started keeping a flight logbook. If you move to more professional use, the Danish Transport Authority recommends using a dedicated logbook system designed for the purpose. Check the current flight logbook requirements at droneregler.dk.
Done! You can now view drone zones directly in the browser and on mobile. Share the link with colleagues so everyone can use the map.
