Step-by-step — QGIS¶
Follow these steps to open the drone zones in QGIS with GeoPackage.
1. Install QGIS
Go to qgis.org/download and download "QGIS Long Term Release (LTR)" — the most stable version. Install with default settings.
2. Open GeoPackage in QGIS
Download both GeoPackage files from the QGIS overview. Drag the first .gpkg file directly into the QGIS map window. Select all layers in the dialogue and click OK. Repeat for the second file.
Alternatively: Layer → Add Layer → Add Vector Layer (Ctrl+Shift+V) → select the GeoPackage file.

3. Add a background map
For Danish drone zones, official background maps from Dataforsyningen (the Danish Agency for Climate Data) are recommended. The easiest way is to install their QGIS plugin:
- Go to Plugins → Manage and Install Plugins
- Search for "Dataforsyningen" and click Install
- Create a free account at dataforsyningen.dk and generate a token
- Enter your token under Settings → Options → the Dataforsyningen tab
- The Dataforsyningen menu now appears in the menu bar — select e.g. Skærmkort dæmpet (muted basemap) as your background map

Drag the background map layer below the drone zone layers in the Layers panel, so the zones are drawn on top.
Quick alternative without registration
Want to get started quickly without creating an account? In the Browser panel (left side), find XYZ Tiles → double-click OpenStreetMap. This gives you an international road map — but without official Danish place names and details.
Can't see the Browser panel?
Go to View → Panels → tick Browser.
4. Explore the drone zones
Click the Identify tool (press I) and click on a zone in the map. A panel shows all attributes — zone name, colour code, restriction type and metadata.

View all features in table form: Right-click a layer → Open Attribute Table (F6).
5. Measure distance to a zone
Click the Measure tool (press M) → select Measure Line. Click on your starting point and then on the edge of the nearest zone.

Coordinate system
For correct metre measurements: click the EPSG code at the bottom right → search 25832 → select ETRS89 / UTM zone 32N.
